Sharing my top diet secrets that will help you score the skin you’ve always wanted!
Who doesn’t want gorgeous glowing skin? If this is on your wish-list, the old adage ‘you are what you eat’ has never been truer. Having a great skincare regime goes together with inculcating healthy eating habits like avocado and everything. We’re all constantly handed out lists of food groups and foods to eat but it can be quite intimidating; even for the well-informed. It requires a lot of planning, prepping and perhaps cooking.
To make your lives easier and skin more glowy, I’m sharing a few fuss-free health hacks I adopt in my daily routine to ace that selfie minus the dependance on “face corrector” apps and filters. I believe good skin comes with good habits. I am also big on all things organic, natural and convenient!
When natural skincare brand Phyt’s launched in India in association with Jean Claude Biguine salons last month, they invited me to share some of these favourite hacks of mine at the press launch. So here I am sharing them with you too!
Pea Protein
Protein helps build collagen
Most of us don’t manage to consume the recommended levels of protein purely through our diet. Since protein helps build collagen, our skin suffers tremendously. I suggest a scoop of pea protein daily because it’s easy to digest, highly bioavailable and moderately neutral in flavour. Add a scoop to your morning smoothie or your roti mix and protein will never be a problem again! This could arguably be the easiest way to include a natural source of protein in your diet.
Sage Tea
Combats early ageing
The antioxidants in fresh sage help ease wrinkles, fine lines, and other ageing signs. This wonder herb thus helps keep your skin younger, radiant, and flawless! Brew a cup of warm sage tea to sip on post lunch. Simply steep a couple of fresh sage leaves in hot water for 3-5 minutes before having.
Ginger + Lemon + Turmeric Shot
Anti-inflammatory
Inflammatory skin conditions can be cured with having natural anti-inflammatory foods like ginger, lemon and turmeric. I religiously begin my morning with a shot of juiced down ginger (juice of about 1 inch of ginger) and one lemon with a fat pinch of turmeric. If you’re worried that it might taste too intense (btw, it tastes delicious once you get used to it) let me tell you that it tastes better than acne spotted skin looks! And if you still find it too sharp, add a teaspoon of honey to the concoction.
Jaggery Lemonade
Powerhouse of vitamins and minerals
Jaggery is a powerhouse of vital vitamins and minerals that provide nourishment to not just your body but also your skin. My favourite way to include jaggery in my daily diet is to make a refreshing lemonade that works double time in the summer. One-two tablespoons of powdered jaggery with the juice of one lime and maybe a hint of ginger yields the most delicious avatar of jaggery.
Super Seed Mix
Healthy fats for skin support
Fat is one of the most crucial elements for hormone balance. Our body needs a daily supply of fats to produce and maintain proper hormone function and hormones control how our skin behaves. My super seed mix works by providing healthy fats and also as a digestive which aids gut health. To make your own, dry roast half a cup each of sesame seeds, cumin, fennel seeds and flax seeds with a tablespoon of caraway seeds. Store this mix in a jar handy by your bedside and have a little spoonful every night before turning in.
